February 29, 2012

Dear friends and supporters of the Izmail Life Care Center;

February was an unusual month for the lives and work of the staff and volunteers of the LCC. It was the first time in many years we had a very low temperature and  much snow which slowed down the work of our Center. The schools were closed for two weeks so we could not be as active as we are used to. In spite of the weather predicament we kept working and did what we could.

1. A group of 6 women successfully graduated from the “School for moms”, 3 of them were rewarded with the main price – the crib.

2. 7 students went through the translation practice and were able to translate the first 5 lessons in a new abstinence program which we are going to use in our future work with middle school students. They have also translated some brochures. One of the students showed ability and interest to interpret for Art and Sharon Scott during their visit in May.

3. A group of former clients get together monthly for a Readers' Club and discuss the book “Mother Factor”. In February we had a usual meeting of this group.

4. Though the schools did not work for two weeks, 134 students of middle school and 210 students of high schools participated in abstinence classes held by our volunteers.

5. Angela has started one-on-one weekly post abortion counseling (12 classes). Also she is counseling a lady who asked for help through internet.

6. Trained by the LCC, people started teaching abstinence for children of different ages in Belgorod-Dnestrovsky and Kiliya. (two cities not far from Izmail).

7. Sunday School for children and their parents has been a great success. There were 7 children involved and three more will be added to the group next month. We had a first “open class” for parents and they were surprised when they heard their children talking about God using big theological terms like “omnipresence”, “omnipotence”, “omniscient”, “eternal” and “holy”. One of the moms sincerely said : “If they keep teaching them in such a way the children will know much more than their parents”. We are happy that the parents want to learn with their children being a good example for them.

Prayer requests:
• pray for Nellya (youth coordinator), her mother passed away last week
• Angela's and my physical health
• Yana (volunteer) while she is away from the family taking exams
• the salvation of our clients and relatives

Thank you for your prayers, advise and support.

Snezhana Popova on behalf of volunteers and staff of Izmail Life Care center.
